Sunda Pangolins (Manis javanica) in care eating ants
Sunda Pangolin Family:
Pangolin are unfortunately threatened around the world due to the demand for their scales in traditional medicines, but this trio are thankfully in good hands at the Wildlife Alliance Wildlife Release Station in the Cardamom Mountains of Cambodia.
The female, Lucy, pictured on the right, unfortunately has two amputated limbs after wounds sustained from a poacher's snares, but has since completely healed and even given birth to the juvenile pictured in the middle. Lucy' suitor on the left is particularly large for this species according to keepers at the station.
Wildlife Alliance has managed to release well over a dozen of these extraordinary ant eating animals into the rainforest surrounding the station over the years, another key step to ensuring their survival in Cambodia.
